It is with profound sadness and broken hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved mother and grandmother, Judith Ann “Judy” Baker, on August 8, 2026, at the age of 69.

Born in Hay River, Northwest Territories, Judy was the daughter of the late Catherine Rose Baker and Harry Andrew Baker. Growing up as an “army brat,” she lived in many places throughout her childhood. She completed high school and college in England before eventually returning to Canada and settling in Ottawa.

It was in Ottawa that Judy met Bobby Blyth and started her family. She was the loving mother of Michelle, stepmother of the late Dahla, mother-in-law to John Nguyen, and the incredibly proud and devoted grandmother of Alex and Kate.

Judy was a loving sister to Bob Baker, William Baker, Terry Baker, the late Jim Baker, Harrison Baker Jr., and Connie Baker. She will also be deeply missed by her extended family, friends, former colleagues, and the many people whose lives she touched.

Judy spent her career working in media, beginning at CJOH and later joining the Ottawa Citizen, where she worked in the newsroom.

More than anything, Judy will be remembered for her gentle nature and incredibly kind heart. She saw the good in everyone and loved her family unconditionally. She was an encouraging and caring mother who was always there, and an extraordinary grandmother whose love for Alex and Kate knew no bounds.

Judy loved cooking, discovering new foods, spending time with her family, and simply being together with the people she loved. She had a wonderful sense of adventure and an incredible ability to make those around her feel loved and cared for.

Her absence leaves an immeasurable space in our family, but the love she gave us will remain a part of us forever.

Every spring, when the lilacs bloom, we will think of Judy and remember how incredibly lucky we were to have been loved by her.
